A large funds run in during min January 2008 to push the KLCI up to new record and after the election also a large funds push KLCI down. If at January 2008 all funds manager sales share to make profit and buy back at March 2008, than KLCI will go high to 1350 points for 2nd major profit taking.
Early at January 2008, KLCI is not effected by any bad news from US market but just after hit 1525 points all bad news are effected KLCI both from US and in Malaysia. The Funds need profit to support they opperation and bonus, thing need to come in balance, in Maths right side equal left side if big funds make money every years that who lost the money? Big fund need to go in and out to make profit from the market, so just be caution when the big funds is in market and when the market is in high points.

17-May-2008 : KLCI is recover status
17-May-2008: 16-05-2008 (FRI) KLCI regains 1,300-mark
Stock prices on Bursa rose on May 16, with the KLCI finally regaining the 1,300-point level, which had provided strong resistance earlier. However, investor caution remained evident as volume remained low and market breadth was only slightly positive for much of the day.
An overnight rally on Wall Street helped boost stock prices at the open. The KLCI rose to as high as 1,302.8 before closing at 1,300.7, up 6.5 points. Advancing stocks led declining ones by an 8-to-5 ratio at the close. However, volume remained relatively low, with just 567 million shares changing hands.
The rally on Wall Street was aided mostly by corporate developments at several major companies and a dip in crude oil prices, with fell to US$124 (RM401.20) per barrel from record high of US$126.98 earlier this week. However, US economic data was still largely mixed.
The Philadelphia Federal Index showed regional manufacturing activity continued to contract in May, but less than in April and more slowly than expectations. The Index came in at negative 15.6 for May, compared with negative 24.9 the previous month.
Meanwhile, the Empire State Index, a measure of manufacturing activity in the New York area came in at worse than expected negative 3.2 for May, down from a slight uptick in April. The weekly jobless claims were in line with expectations, rising by 6,000 to 371,000.
Also on the plus side, the Labour Department reported the number of laid-off workers applying for jobless benefits last week rose 6,000 to 371,000, which was mostly in line with expectations and indicated the labour market remains weak but in check.
On the domestic front, there were few developments, apart from Boustead Holdings' proposed privatisation of Boustead Properties, which saw the latter's share price rise 15.3%. Corporate results continue to trickle in, with no major surprises so far except for the earlier strong showing in steel companies.
The day's most actively traded stocks include Liqua, IE, MRCB, Resorts, Lion Corp and Time dotCom. Top gainers of the day include Boustead Properties, BAT, KNM, Bursa Malaysia, Lingui and RHB Capital. Losers include Public Bank, KESM, MAS and Axis

16-May-2008: Market continues to drift
Sentiment on the broader market remains ambivalent yesterday. The lack of definitive leads kept prices for most stocks within narrow trading ranges. The closely monitored KL Composite Index stayed in positive territory for the better part of the day, held up by select blue-chip gains. However, market breadth reflected a slightly more negative stance. Indeed, the ratio of gaining to losing counters was in the red for much of the day. But renewed buying momentum near the close helped shore up the number of gaining stocks. At the close, advancers outpaced decliners by roughly seven to six. The KLCI ended the day 6.4 points higher at 1,294.2. Among the more notable gainers were blue chips like Bumiputra Commerce, Sime Darby, Public Bank and KL Kepong. Some of the day's top gainers were thinly traded, including the likes of IOI Properties, Narra Industries, Batu Kawan, Malayan Flour, BAT and Ge-Shen Corp. Shares for Resorts World were the most actively traded for the day. Other heavily traded stocks include Intelligent Edge Technologies and RCE Capital. Market volume stood at about 590 million shares. Pulai Springs and Golden Plus Holdings were among the biggest losers for the day. Prices for most steel stocks also ended lower yesterday. The sector has fared very well over the past week. Thus, the profit taking was not surprising. The local bourse had been treading water for the past few days. Gains were quickly pared on profit taking with investor adopting a short-term view on the market. Such sentiment was mirrored in the US as well as key Asian financial markets. Most investors appear uncertain of whether the worst is really over or if we are merely waiting for the other shoe to drop. The prevailing conditions could drag on for some time to come.

15-05-2008: No fresh leads
KUALA LUMPUR: Sentiment on the Bursa Malaysia stayed relatively firm Wednesday. There wasn't much in terms of fresh leads for investors to act upon. We expect share prices will continue to drift sideways in the near term.
The KL Composite Index opened in positive territory. It rose to an intra-day high of 1,296.5 points in the early hours of trading. However, selling pressure pared gains in the afternoon session. The benchmark index eventually closed with gains of just over one point at 1,287.7 points.
Market breadth reflected investor ambivalence. The broader market traded on a more or less neutral footing. The ratio of gaining to losing counters fluctuated between the positive and negative zones throughout the day. At the close, the number of gaining stocks was just ahead of losing ones by roughly six to five.
Market volume increased some from the previous two trading days. About 606 million shares changed hands Wednesday. The most actively traded stock was AirAsia. Shares for the budget airline operator finished 3.3% lower at RM1.19. Operating conditions appear tough with high fuel prices. Competition with Malaysia Airlines also seems to have stepped up another level in recent days after the latter launched its "Everyday Low Fares" promotion.
Other actively traded stocks include Leader Steel, PECB, Liqua, Time dotCom and AMMB. Elsewhere, interests in steels stocks remained strong. Most steel counters closed with gains Wednesday.
Among the top gainers were Malaysia Steel Works, whose share price finished 9.4% higher at RM2.09. Despite recent gains, P/E valuation for the steel sector is still significantly below that for the broader market.
Other notable gainers for the day were Tanjong plc, Parkson, PPB and Leader Steel. At the other end, share prices for Public Bank and Bumiputra Commerce ended lower on mild profit taking activities.
In other world developments, crude oil prices remained stubbornly higher despite suggestions of slower demand going forward. Crude futures is currently trading near US$126 (RM403.20) per barrel.

14-May-2008: 13 May 2008 KLCI Stocks falls on profit-taking
KUALA LUMPUR: Stock prices on Bursa Malaysia fell as profit-taking activities set in after recent gains.
The KLCI had largely bucked the regional trend – chalking up good gains in the past week or so. Some of those gains had come towards the end of trading. Thus, some profit-taking activities were to be expected, more so as the KLCI neared the 1,300-point psychological level, and with broader market conditions and trading volume staying weak.
Taking its cue from an overnight rally on Wall Street – and helped by a fall in crude oil prices, the KLCI rose modestly at the start of trading, gaining as much as four points. However, it fell into negative territory from the mid-morning onwards and closed 6.6 points lower at 1,286.5 points.
Market breadth was negative throughout the day, but evened out at the close. Trading volume stayed thin with just 525 million shares changing hands.
The day's most actively traded stocks were PECD, AirAsia, JAKS, KHSB, Golden Plus and Maybank. Steel and building materials stocks continued their rally, due to the recent strong results by steel companies such as Southern Steel and Ann Joo, as well as the government's decision to liberalise steel prices.
Top gainers of the day include Southern Steel, Nestlé, Hume Industries, BAT, Astro and Ann Joo. DiGi was the biggest loser of the day, followed by YTL Power was the day's top loser, which fell after trading ex today for a 1-for-3 issue of 2.2 billion warrants priced at a deep discount to the market. Other losers include MPI, Parkson, Public Bank-foreign, Kulim and IOI Corp.
The local market will continue to take its leads from Wall Street as well as the upcoming local corporate earnings season, which should see more results reported in the next two weeks.

13-May-2008 Today's Market Preview
After rising on the strength of plantation counter and CPO prices yesterday, the key Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) may climb further to test the psychological mark of 1,300 today on account of the overnight lift on Wall Street ( whose major equity indices jumped between 1.0% and 1.8% at the closing bell).
Essentially, the Malaysia benchmark index is likely to show a positive bias attributable to buying activities of selected index-linked stocks although the broad performance is expected to be marred by a mixed market breadth and slow trading activity.
On the data front, the index of industrial production (IPI) report for Mar is due for release later today, with one media survey projecting an annual increase of 4.5% for the month.

12-05-2008: Malaysian banks pricey compared to regional peers
KUALA LUMPUR: While boasting strong fundamentals and earnings, Malaysian banks still offer pricey valuations in comparison to their Asean peers, making them expensive to foreign investors. “Generally, investors look at the price to book value (PBV) ratio and in Malaysia they are still high although the PE (price to earnings) ratios are decent. “The valuations range from 1.7 times to more than three times, so in that sense, Malaysian banks are pricey,” said Pong Teng Siew, head of research at MIMB Investment Bank. According to Bloomberg data, the country’s two largest banks in terms of market capitalisation — namely Public Bank Bhd and Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) — were trading at 4.23 and 1.99 times to book value, respectively, last Friday. An analyst with a local research house said Malaysian banks were less attractive to foreign institutional investors due to their high valuations. Valuations of local banks are even higher than that of its peers in Singapore and Thailand, the analyst pointed out. “Bank valuations have come down at the moment, as they are merely reflecting the conditions of the current market,” the analyst said, adding that investors would have a better indication of bank valuations in the third quarter, as banking groups’ performances would be more visible during this period. In comparison, Singapore’s UOB Bank was trading at 1.88 times book value and Thailand’s Bangkok Bank was trading at 1.48 times. While Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) recently took up a 25% stake in RHB Capital Bhd from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), MIMB’s Pong said this was an exceptional case as Abu Dhabi was keen on the resulting Islamic banking opportunities. The analyst with the local research house said prospects of foreign institutional investors coming to the Malaysian banking sector would dwindle as valuations of banks increased over time. Foreign institutional investors interested in acquiring a strategic stake in local banks would have to be big banking players such as Chinese banks, given their strong cash position and big appetite, the analyst said. Some local banks such as Public Bank, have a foreign shareholding limit of 30%, making it tough for foreign entrants to acquire a strategic stake in the banking group, the analyst said. The analyst highlighted that Malaysia’s banking landscape had become increasingly saturated, resulting in more local banking groups seeking opportunities abroad. “For instance, local banks can no longer boast that they have the net interest margin that Indonesian and Pakistani banks have,” the analyst said. But while foreign institutional investors are not rushing in to buy into Malaysian banks as yet, Pong said domestic banks were still on the radar of foreign portfolio investors, particularly the large and liquid ones like Public Bank and Maybank. “Maybank’s recent high-priced acquisitions (in Indonesia and Pakistan) have not gone down well with portfolio investors. However, its long terms prospects are not likely to be damaged,” he said. An April 14 report by Macquarie Research underscored investor concerns about the Malaysian banking landscape. Based on feedback on Asean banks from Macquarie’s clients in the US, they were most receptive to Thailand banks and least keen on Malaysian banks, according to the report. “Moderating loan growth, falling margins, weaker non-interest income and risk to higher operating expenses underscore the pressure on underlying profits. “This situation is compounded by the uncertainty posed by the challenging political landscape that could potentially delay the various government initiatives (the Ninth Malaysia plan and civil servants pay hike),” said Macquarie in the report. The research house named Public Bank and AMMB Holdings Bhd as its sole outperformers. Investors were seeking political clarity following the recent elections in Malaysia, with some wondering why Maybank had paid an exorbitant sum for Bank Internasional Indonesia, said Macquarie. The research house said it preferred Thailand due to a favourable top down assessment arising from political stability and anticipation that it will likely be the sole country to see faster gross domestic product (GDP) growth this year. “We believe banks are a good way to play the anticipated economic recovery, where we see a strengthening domestic demand story encapsulated by a rebound in consumer spending and spilling over to private and government spending. We expect faster loan and revenue growth (in Thailand),” Macquarie said. The research house also liked Singaporean banks due to its strong fundamentals despite pressure on margins and loan growth. It expected economic resiliency in the Philippines despite concerns over politics, inflation and remittance flow; and expected strong loan growth. Indonesian banks meanwhile, despite inflation concerns, remained attractive due to the lowest loan penetration, fastest loan growth, fattest margins and highest return on equity (ROE) in the region, Macquarie said.
10-05-2008 - Malaysian shares close higher driven by plantation, energy stocks
KUALA LUMPUR (Thomson Financial) - Malaysian shares closed higher on Friday, bucking the regional trend, led by plantation and oil and gas stocks following a rebound in crude palm oil (CPO) futures after crude oil prices hit new highs. Gains by financial counters and select blue chips further supported the market. Crude oil struck a fresh record near $125 a barrel on Friday, even after the OPEC cartel insisted that the market was well-supplied and that the rise in prices was driven by speculators. Analysts said OPEC's view has already been factored into prices. New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for June delivery, reached a record of $124.70 a barrel in Asian trading hours. CPO tracks the performance of crude oil as palm oil can be used as feedstock in the making of biodiesel. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was up 4.92 points or 0.4 percent at 1,285.27. For the week, the KLCI gained 1.1 percent or 13.8 points. The FTSE Bursa Malaysia 30-large cap index gained 45.36 points or 0.6 percent to 8,356.47 and the FTSE Bursa Malaysia second board index added 7.99 points or 0.1 percent to 5,875.64. Advancers led decliners 351 to 310, with 299 stocks unchanged and 460 counters untraded. Trading volume was low at 510 million shares valued at 1 billion ringgit.
